Soar

Privacy Policy

Soar, a Wyoming corporation  ·  Effective July 24, 2026  ·  Last updated July 25, 2026

Plain-English summary: Soar is free. In exchange, we collect your flight data and link it to your name, and we sell that identified information to insurance partners who use it to rate the risk of individual pilots and fleets — which can lower or raise the premiums offered to you or your operation. This is a change from earlier versions of the App, in which flight telemetry was keyed to a random identifier rather than to you. Creating an account and providing your name are required to use the App. Some states bar the sale of precise location data; if you live in one, your data is contributed in de-identified form only and is not part of the insurance product (Section 9).
Safety notice: Soar provides advisory situational-awareness information only. It is not a certified navigation source and must not be relied upon as a primary means of navigation or obstacle avoidance.

Soar, a Wyoming corporation ("Soar," "we," "us," "our") operates the Soar mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy, together with the Notice at Collection (Section 2) and the Notice of Financial Incentive (Section 13), explains what personal information we collect, why, how we use, share, and sell it, and the rights and choices you have. By creating an account and using the App you acknowledge this Policy. Where the law requires consent, we obtain it through the in-App disclosure and controls described below.

1. Who this Policy covers

This Policy applies to all users of the App worldwide. Additional rights for residents of California, other U.S. states, and the EEA/UK are described in Sections 10–11.

2. Notice at Collection

At or before the point of collection, we collect the categories below. We collect this information to operate the App and, as a core part of our business, to analyze, license, and sell it to insurance partners in identifiable form, linked to you. Precise geolocation is treated as Sensitive Personal Information. We retain each category as described in Section 8.

Sources: directly from you (name, state of residence, email, logbook) and automatically from your device and the App (everything else).

This data is about you, by name. Unlike prior versions of the App, flight telemetry is no longer anonymous: your flights are tied to your name and account so they can be sold to insurance partners as a profile of you as a pilot.

3. How we use information

We use information to: operate the App and deliver hazard alerts and flight features; provide, store, back up, and sync your flight recordings and pilot logbook; create, secure, and support your account; build an identified profile of your flying and sell, license, and share it with insurance partners who use it to assess pilot and fleet risk (Section 4); analyze aviation-safety patterns and develop products, datasets, and models; and detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents, and comply with law.

4. How we share, sell, and transfer information

We disclose, license, and sell your information, in identifiable form linked to your name, to the following categories of recipients:

5. De-identified and aggregated data

Where we create de-identified or aggregated data, we maintain it in that form and do not attempt to re-identify it except to test our de-identification. Note that the core insurance product described above is identifiable, not de-identified.

6. Insurance use and your related rights (FCRA)

Because insurance partners may use our information as a factor in decisions about your eligibility for, or the pricing of, insurance, the following may apply:

7. Children and minors

The App is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. We do not sell the personal information of consumers we know to be under 16 without affirmative authorization.

8. Data retention

We retain identifiable flight, location, aviation-record, and usage data for up to 36 months, and account data for the life of your account, except where a longer period is required by law or to resolve disputes. De-identified and aggregated data may be retained indefinitely. When you delete a flight in the App, we delete the stored track and the underlying telemetry for that flight from our servers. When you delete your account, see Section 9 for exactly what is removed and what is kept in de-identified form.

9. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from inside the App, under Settings › Account › Delete Account. You do not need to email us and you do not need to wait for us.

Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your profile, username and photo; your posts, comments and kudos; flights you have shared and their tracks; the flight recordings and logbook entries stored on our servers; your messages and conversations; your marketplace listings, job postings and job applications; and your follows in both directions. Photographs you uploaded are deleted from storage at the same time. Deletion cannot be undone and we cannot restore an account afterwards.

What is kept, with you no longer attached to it. Some records survive in de-identified form because other pilots depend on them for safety: hazards and obstacles you reported, alert events, and flight track points used to build and correct the obstacle database. The profile carrying your name is deleted, so these records are no longer linked to you, and we do not attempt to re-identify them (Section 5). An operator or company page you created remains for its other members, without you as an owner. We may also retain a limited record where the law requires it or to resolve a dispute.

If your concern is the data program rather than the account, you do not need to delete anything: turn telemetry off under Settings › Privacy, which stops collection and keeps your logbook and your account. Note that data already sold to an insurance partner before you delete or opt out cannot be recalled from that partner, although your rights to obtain, dispute and correct it (Section 6) continue to apply.

10. Jurisdictional limits on selling precise geolocation

We do not sell identified precise geolocation data where the law prohibits it. Several states ban the sale of precise geolocation entirely — currently Maryland, Oregon, Virginia, and Connecticut, with more expected. For residents of those states, we do not sell your flight tracks in identified form and do not include your data in the identified insurance product; where we use such data at all, we do so only in de-identified or aggregated form that cannot reasonably be linked back to you. Maryland prohibits the sale of sensitive data (including precise geolocation) even with your consent, so for Maryland residents this restriction applies regardless of any agreement. We ask for your state of residence when you create an account in order to apply these rules, we maintain and update this list of jurisdictions as the law changes, and the restriction is enforced on our servers.

11. U.S. state privacy rights

Depending on your state (including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, and others), you may have the right to: confirm and access the personal information we process; correct it; delete it; obtain a portable copy; opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising; and limit the use of Sensitive Personal Information. These rights are provided by law and cannot be waived.

12. EEA/UK (GDPR / UK GDPR)

13. Notice of Financial Incentive (California Civ. Code § 1798.125)

Because the App is free in exchange for the collection and sale of your identified data, we offer a financial incentive.

14. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

15. Changes

We may update this Policy. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date and, where required, by in-App notice or renewed consent.
